COUNTRY MUSIC: The Great North Country Music Theatre will welcome Blackstone River, a trio, to the Glaxo Sports and Social Club, Barnard Castle, on Sunday, October 6. Doors open at 7pm, admission is £4 and the show is open to all.
SPORTSMAN'S DINNER: Former England opening batsmen Graeme Fowler is to be the guest speaker at a sportsman's dinner jointly organised by Barnard Castle's cricket and rugby clubs. Money raised will be used to support the junior sections at both clubs. It takes place on Friday, October 25, in the main hall at Barnard Castle School. HALL FUNDRSAISER: The Atlantic Soul Messengers will be raising the roof at Butterknowle Village Hall on Saturday, October 19, when they take to the stage for a fundraising concert which starts at 7.30pm. FESTIVAL TIME: A folk and beer festival featuring four bands and seven ales will take place at Gainford Village Hall on Saturday, October 5. There will be an open mic session between 2pm and 5pm, with doors open for the evening's entertainment at 6.30pm. Music will be provided by The Old Age Travellers, Savage Myrtles, Geggenforde and The Dalesiders. Admission is £3. For further details contact Linda Britton on 07718-663566.
ORGAN CONCERT: Andrew Christer will be playing on the recently refurbished 1905 JJ Binns pipe organ at Bishop Auckland Methodist Church, on Thursday, October 10, at 7pm. Admission is free but donations to church funds are welcome.
MARATHON FUNDRAISING: Julie Crawford, of Bishop Auckland will be tackling the New York Marathon next month in aid of Get Kids Going. To boost funds for the cause she is holding a charity night staring Meghan Nicholson, at the Masonic Hall, on Saturday, October 12, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 in advance or £7 on the door. CHRISTMAS CRAFTS: The Howden-Le-Wear Community Partnership Association is holding a Christmas craft fair on Saturday, October 19, from 1pm to 5pm. Tables can be booked for £5 by calling 01388 764419.
SOUP LUNCH: Howden-Le-Wear Bridge Street Methodist Chapel is holding a soup lunch on Thursday, October 3, at 12.30pm. Admission is free but donations are requested.
