Soap stars to take part in "most competitive" rallycross competition ever at Croft Circuit
STARS from two of the nation’s best-loved soaps will tear up the tarmac in what is set to be the most competitive British Rallycross Championship finale and Grand Prix ever to be held at Croft Circuit.
Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Andy Sugden in Emmerdale, will compete in the BMW Mini category, while Tony Hirst, who stars as fireman Paul Kershaw in Coronation Street, will race in the event’s Retro Rallycross category.
The circuit, near Darlington, will open its doors to the final of the MSA British Rallycross Championship finale on Saturday, October 19 before hosting the blue riband rallycross Grand Prix on Sunday, October 20.
"I've heard all the hype recently about Rallycross, but hadn't actually seen any before I received an invitation to race at Croft,” said Mr Fletcher.
“I've since watched it on the TV and it looks like the perfect combination of rally and racing. I can't wait to get in the car and give it everything I have; you never know I might enjoy it too much and be chasing Petter Solberg (European Rallycross star) next year!"
Organisers are expecting the weekend to be the most competitive rallycross event ever to be held at Croft, and included in the line-up of both British and European drivers is Northallerton’s Kevin Proctor and Mark Watson, of Barnard Castle.
A funfair, static car and motorbike line-ups and a jaw-dropping display from Darlington’s world record stunt driver, Paul Swift, will also be on hand to entertain visitors.
Tickets are £10 for Saturday and £13 for Sunday when booked in advance from croftcircuit.co.uk or by calling 01325-721815.
Children under 15 go free all weekend when accompanied by an adult.
