Motorcyclist dies in accident near Sutton Bank

A MIDDLE-AGED motorcyclist has died after a crash with a car.
The driver was involved in a crash on the A170 near Sutton Bank, in North Yorkshire last night.
He was riding a Ducati sport bike which was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Astra at Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe at about 5.45pm.
The victim has not been named but was in his mid 50s and from Beverley, in East Yorkshire.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "While we are not in a position to formally identify the man at this stage, family members are being supported by officers as enquiries continue".
Police say he was travelling from Thirsk towards Sutton Bank when the accident happened at Bagby junction.
It is believed the rider was overtaking a line of other vehicles when he collided with the Astra car, which was turning right.
Despite efforts by police and paramedics, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Astra driver escaped uninjured but was left shocked by the incident.
The road was closed until shortly after 11pm to allow accident investigators to examine the scene.
Witnesses to the accident are asked to ring North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for Julian Pearson.
