HUNDREDS of runners pounded the streets at the 31st Redcar Half Marathon.
The event saw Paul Pollock from Belfast win the men's race with Shona Fletcher from Northallerton coming first in the women's run.
Running groups from across the North-East competed as well as amateur atheletes running for local charities.
Simon Lawson came first in the men's wheelchair course while 17-year-old Jade Jones came first in the women's wheelchair competition.
The coastal course which started and finished at the east Cleveland town’s leisure centre, also took on the seafront’s £75m regeneration including the town’s Beacon, dubbed its ‘vertical pier’.
Richard Mason, a sports journalist at the Northern Echo, Darlington & Stockton Times and Durham Times completed the final stretch of a year-long challenge with two half-marathons and a 10km run inside three weeks to raise more than £750.
The 30-year-old set himself the goal of running more than 60 miles in 2013, raising money for the Finlay Cooper Fund and Alzheimer's Society, with the final three events squeezed into September.
This month started with the Sabic Tees Pride 10k in Middlesbrough, followed by the Great North Run and today’s Redcar Half Marathon which he finished in 2 hours 12 minutes.
The father-of-one from Linthorpe who suffers from osteoarthritis has already completed the Half Marathon of the North in April, the Tees Barrage 10k in May, the 5k Riverside Run in June and last month's Darlington 10k.
He said he was happy to have finished today’s run as his hips had been hurting. “I am proud to have raised cash for two deserving charities this year,” he added on Twitter.
