North-East students fly high in the City
TWO North-East students got a taste for city life when they won prestigious internships recently.
Matthew Kirtley and Malcolm Glennie, students at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College beat off tough competition to secure high-flying placements in London.
The all-expenses paid internships saw Mr Kirtley try his hand at global investment banking with J.P. Morgan whilst Mr Glennie worked with the Cabinet Office in Whitehall, dealing with the government’s digital service.
Mr Kirtley said: “I met many interesting characters and gained an insight into the financial sector which I’d never have had otherwise.”
Mr Glennie added: “I feel very privileged to have been given such a wonderful opportunity to work in Whitehall and discover more about the workings of our government and international institutions.”
The placements were awarded by the Social Mobility Foundation, which provides a variety of residential internship programmes for high achieving students.
