THE HIGHWAYS agency has announced several road closures and temporary traffic measures in the South Durham area to allow for new or ongoing improvement work.

From Monday, September 30, to Thursday, October 3, the southbound carriageway of A1 motorway will be closed from junction 59 to 60, at Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. Diversions will be in place.

On the A66, at Boldron, near Barnard Castle, resurfacing work will lead to temporary traffic lights and speed restrictions, including a 40mph limit on the approach and 10mph limit alongside the workforce. The works will take place from Wednesday, October 2 to Saturday, October 5.

Also on the A66, at Stainmore, near Bowes, repairs will result in the closures of lane two of the east and westbound carriageways. A 50mph speed restriction will also be imposed at all times until further notice.
