Classroom joker from Middlesbrough has the last laugh by securing stand-up gig
3:48pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
A CLASSROOM joker who has worked hard to make a name for herself on the comedy circuit will be taking to the stage at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt.
Natalie Wicks will be performing in her home town at the Big Mouth Comedy Club on Saturday, October 5.
The graphic designer from Ormesby has quickly built up a reputation after playing her first gig a year ago.
She will be on the same bill at the town hall as Gavin Webster, Adam Bloom and Matt Reed.
“It’s a bit daunting being on home turf, I’ll have at least one grandparent in the audience, as well as other family and friends, but hopefully I’ll be full of adrenalin rather than mortal fear,” added the 27-year-old.
“I’ve loved comedy since childhood; I get that off my dad I think. I had some performance experience from school and had always been a bit of a class joker type, but I was finally inspired to give it a try myself when I started going to comedy clubs when I lived in Newcastle.
“I saw a couple of Edinburgh Previews from Sarah Millican and Gary Delaney, and then it just sort of clicked that live comedy was something I needed to try at least once.
“I’ve never really stuck anything out this long so I think it’s come as a bit of a surprise to people, especially my parents."
