Young dad in court after smashing window at Cricketers Hotel in Darlington
A YOUNG father has been fined for smashing the window of a Darlington pub undergoing refurbishment.
Ashley Wardell, 19, of Salisbury Terrace, Darlington, pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared before the town’s magistrates today (Thursday, September 26).
The court heard Wardell was drunk and was arguing in a small group when he kicked in a front window of the Cricketers Hotel on Parkgate at about 9pm on September 5.
Leanne Galbraith, mitigating, said he could give “no reason” for his actions but wanted to pay for the damage.
She added Wardell became a father in January, shortly after being released from a spell in prison, and now wanted to stay out of trouble and support his young family.
Magistrates ordered him to pay a total of £178 in fines and charges.
