THE mystery of thousands of video tapes being dumped in a remote field is to be re-told on national television.

In April, dozens of fruit boxes containing James Bond films and Disney classics were found in a field close to Headlam Hall Hotel, near Darlington.

The BBC1 daytime programme Caught Red Handed is to feature the mysterious appearance of the tapes in a forthcoming episode.

It is understood the owners of the field, Jo and Simon Robinson, will take part in the programme.

Earlier this month, rubbish collector Craig Herriott, of Darlington Rubbish Removals, was fined after he admitted removing the tapes from a second hand shop.

The 30-year-old had split the haul into three loads because of its size, Darlington Magistrates’ Court was told.

Mr Herriott said he was not responsible for dumping the tapes.

He admitted transferring waste without producing a waste transfer notice, failing to ensure the transfer was to an authorised person and failing to transfer controlled waste without taking reasonable measures to prevent a breach of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
