Road closures to put in place for cycle event
THE final preparations are being made for the return of a major cycle challenge next month.
Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Pennines takes place on Sunday, October 6 and will see cyclists take on the rugged terrain of the Durham Dales.
It is organised by IMG Challenger World and supported by Durham County Council.
Residents and businesses in Teesdale and Weardale, as well as those intending to travel in the area on the day, are reminded that a series of timed road closures will be in place during the event.
Temporary road signs are being put in place to alert people to the road closures.
Nigel Dodds, strategic manager for outdoor sports and leisure at Durham County Council, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Pennines, which is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the region over the course of the weekend.
“We are reminding local people and those planning to travel in the area that road closures will be in place and people are advised to check the arrangements and plan their journeys accordingly.”
