Darlington Festival of Thrift visitor numbers topped 25,000
ORGANISERS have confirmed that a total of 25,000 people attended the Festival of Thrift at the weekend.
The huge event featured 70 thrift-related stalls, workshops, attractions and guest speakers in what was hailed as the first festival of its kind to be held in the UK.
Fashion designer Wayne Hemingway, festival curator, reflected on its debut at Lingfield Point.
He said: "The turnout speaks for itself.
“It’s been a fantastic success and the atmosphere was great.
“People in their 20s are the first generation to be worse off than their parents - the world has to change - and the Festival of Thrift is a superb start.
"The North has a history of hard-work and thrift and can lead the way in making it happen and in making it fun.”
Mr Hemingway hopes that the festival will return to the North-East next year.
