CAMPAIGNERS behind a £3m renovation of a historic North-East hall are seeking the final £70,000 in needs to help cover running and equipment costs.
Work is taking place to complete the £3m rebuilding and refurbishment scheme at Witham Hall, in Barnard Castle.
But a total of £350,000 is needed to help cover essential day to day costs of running the hall.
A fundraising campaign has so far netted nearly £280,000 due to grant applications and donations ranging in size from £10 up to £25,000.
However the Witham Hall group still needs nearly £70,000 to meet the target and it is appealing for help to raise the money needed.
Chris Clark, chairman of The Witham Hall, said: “The support we have seen so far from our supporters - and in particular from local organisations and individuals - has been incredible.
“It’s heart-warming to know that The Witham means so much to the people of Teesdale and gives us great hope for our future.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to the campaign so far, no matter how large or small the amount.
“With the redevelopment work now nearly complete, it’s an exciting time for us as we look forward to returning to The Witham buildings.
“However, it’s important not to lose sight of the challenges still ahead. We have further funds yet to raise to meet our target.
“Securing the remaining £70,000 is vital in ensuring the ongoing operation of The Witham is sustainable and able to deliver the exciting programme of events”
The Witham Hall is undergoing a major renovation and Durham County Council has given £2m towards the cost of the work.
Funding has also come from sources such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Regional development Fund.
The work is part of Barnard Castle Vision’s master plan to boost the town to increase footfall and also spending.
Anyone wishing to contribute towards The Witham’s fundraising campaign can do so on-line by visiting www.justgiving.com/thewitham.
Donations can also be made by sending a cheque to The Witham’s temporary base at Woodleigh, Flatts Road, Barnard Castle, DL12 8AA.
