Runner raises funds for cancer charity in memory of her husband
3:03pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
A CHARITY runner has completed the Great North Run in aid of Bowel Cancer UK after her husband died from the illness five years ago.
Her husband Paul Stanger was diagnosed with bowel cancer after he felt a lump in his abdomen.
He underwent surgery and a course of chemotherapy but the cancer spread and doctors were unable to operate and Mr Stanger died in 2008.
Mrs Stanger said: “I feel early diagnosis could have saved him. There will always be a void in their lives.
“I hope raising money for Bowel Cancer UK by taking part in the Great North Run will help towards advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
“I think it’s important to raise peoples' awareness of early symptoms and that the disease can hit any age. ”
