Shoppers support murdered soldier memorial charity
12:39pm Friday 20th September 2013 in News
BIG-hearted Northallerton shoppers picked a subject close to their hearts when they were asked to choose a charity.
They plumped for the trust set up in memory of local soldier L Cpl Ben Hyde, of the Royal Military Police, murdered in Iraq ten years ago, along with five comrades.
Cash raised by the town's Asda store was presented to Ben's father, John, from Northallerton, on Thursday (September 19).
"This is the second time Asda have done this for us and we are very grateful to the store and those who shop here, " said Mr Hyde.
The £104 is the latest boost to the charity, which has supported a host of local good causes since it was set up in the wake of Ben's death.
Last month, Mr Hyde, along with friends Irene and Noel Christon, completed a 15-day 214-mile trek along the Trans Pennine Trail, while carrying a dummy on a stretcher, raising £2,500.
