Mark Simmons from the Museum of Hartlepool will be telling people more about their First World War memorabilia at a First World War Information Fair on Monday, September 23, from 10am to 5pm at Hartlepool Central Library in York Road. Valuations will not be given.
VAIZEY VISIT: Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, visited the mima gallery in Middlesbrough as part of a brief visit to the region which took in other cultural highlights including the Lindisfarne Gospels. He ‘tweeted’ that he was impressed with the modern art gallery’s commitment to engaging with local people through various community programmes.
BUSINESS GROWTH: Company start-ups have been rising steadily in Middlesbrough since 2008, according to Middlesbrough Council’s annual statement of accounts for the year ending March 31 2012/13. A total of 660 new firms were set up in the town last year, more than any other year and a two per cent increase on the previous year.
