Successes for Stockton and east Cleveland villages in Northumbria in Bloom competition
STOCKTON is celebrating its gold award as Best City for the tenth year running at this year’s Northumbria in Bloom awards.
The prestigious accolade, received every year since 2004, was just one of the awards won across the Stockton area in the ceremony on Tuesday, September 17 The Best Small City award was presented to Thornaby for the second consecutive year, and Stockton’s Ropner Park won Best Park (Towns section) in the Special Awards section.
Councillor David Rose, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "Everyone involved in maintaining the floral displays, keeping the Borough clean and green and making it a nice place to live and visit should be very proud."
There were also big successes in the east Cleveland area. The villages of Moorsholm, Lingdale and Stanghow all won gold medals.
Stockton and the villages of Stanghow and Moorsholm, an outright winner in the villages in bloom category, will now go through to the Britain in Bloom national competition in October.
