Burglar only failed to steal goods as someone else beat him to it
A MAN who entered a garage to steal goods only failed to do so, his solicitor said, because someone else had beaten him to the job.
Karl Nimmo, 32, of Aviemore Court, Darlington, broke into the garage on Hutton Avenue, Darlington, at some point between July 3 and July 5.
Prosecutor Jon Garside said police had found Nimmo’s fingerprints at the crime scene and they arrested him.
He told Newton Aycliffe magistrates that the garage’s owner said she knew Nimmo, but claimed he did not have legal access to the building.
John Clish, defending Nimmo, said: “He denies taking any items, but he does agree that he entered with intent to steal.
“He says he was beaten to the job by someone else.”
Nimmo pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary where he entered a property with the intention to steal.
Newton Aycliffe magistrates adjourned the case until October 15 as they requested a pre-sentence report.
Nimmo was granted conditional bail, which includes a curfew to be in his Aviemore Court house between 9pm and 7am each day.
