Darlington Magistrates' Court round-up

THE following cases were heard by South Durham Magistrates sitting at Darlington Magistrates’ Court:
NOT GUILTY: David Michael James Portass, 45, of Gurney Street, Darlington, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Magistrates declined jurisdiction and the case will be dealt with at Teesside Crown Court.
NO PLEA: Raymond Bragg, 45, of Outram Street, Darlington, appeared at court charged with two counts of theft from another. He did not enter any pleas and the case was sent to Teesside Crown Court.
NO LICENCE: Simon Forster, 45, of Belle Vue Crescent, Sunderland, had a charge of driving without a licence proved in his absence. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge. He also had three points added to his licence.
TRIAL DATE: Jonathon Richard Fitt, 56, of Carmel Road North, Darlington, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft from a shop and assaulting a constable in the execution of duty. He will stand trial at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on December 12.
SPEEDING FINE: Andrew Anthony Hughes, of Association Street, Shildon, had a charge of speeding proved in his absence. The court heard that he was caught by a police speed camera driving at 42mph in a 30mph zone in Coniscliffe Road, Darlington. He was fined £400 and had three points added to his licence. He must also pay court costs of £85 and a £40 victim surcharge.
CHARGE DENIED: Lee Corrie, 19, of Tyne Crescent, Darlington, denied one charge of criminal damage to property. His trial will take place at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on November 29.
