MP briefed on Wensleydale RUFC clubhouse plans
RICHMOND MP William Hague has been briefed on a rugby club’s ambitious plans to build a new clubhouse.
Wensleydale RUFC has launched a campaign to raise the money needed to build new changing rooms, function room, bar and catering facilities.
Mr Hague was told during a visit on Saturday, September 14, how the club’s junior section had swelled to 250 members, with 40 adults also playing regularly.
The club also boasts a growing army of volunteers.
Chief fundraiser Lee Featherstone told the Foreign Secretary how the club had outgrown its current facilities and badly needed a new clubhouse to accommodate all the teams, increase income and host county-level matches.
The club has in principle a grant of £200,000 from the RFU and a further £30,000 from fundraising and smaller grants, Mr Hague was told.
The MP later observed an under-15 and 16 training session led by Peter Taylor, Wensleydale volunteer coach and a rugby development officer at the RFU.
Before leaving, Mr Hague pledged his support and assistance to the club.
