Figures from the Department for Transport have shown there were 35 crashes on the A64 through Ryedale in North Yorkshire last year - four more than the previous year and the highest level since 2009. However, the accident rate was still below the average for rural A roads in England.
Flat fire: A man suffered burns to his hands when a faulty electrical socket caused a fire in his basement flat on King’s Road, Harrogate, shortly before 1am today, September 13. Fire crews quickly dealt with the incident and the man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Open gardens: The gardens of Constable Burton hall, near Leyburn, will be open to the public to help raise cash for the Red Cross on September 22 from 9am to 6pm. Admission will be £3 for adults, £2.50 for pensioners and 50p for accompanied children.
