THE flooding that caused massive devastation of a seaside town has resulted in the cancellation of a motoring event this weekend.
Saltburn was deluged under floodwater last Friday and the course for the historic motor gathering and hill climb is too severely affected for the event to go ahead on Sunday.
However, it is better news for town’s funicular cliff lift which has been out of operation for a week while a safety check was carried out.
Olwyn Peters, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said the cliff lifts were expected to be in operation tomorrow (Saturday).
She said: “There was a small landslip near the cliff lifts but an inspection has determined it was localised and it did not affect them.
“Similarly, a landslip near the footpath by the chalets is not thought to pose any risk. Both areas will be monitored and subject to remedial works.”
