Thieves steal thousands from Darlington pensioner
4:02pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
AN 89-year-old man had jewellery and tens of thousands of pounds in cash stolen during a burglary at his home.
The break-in, at an address in Lynton Gardens, Darlington, took place between 11.30am and 3.15pm on Wednesday (September 11).
A green safe containing the valuables was stolen. The victim was not in the house at the time of the raid.
Detective Sergeant Andy Crowe, of Darlington CID, said: “The elderly victim and his wider family have been left shaken and distressed by this incident, many of the items stolen from the safe are irreplaceable and have a lot of sentimental value.
“I would like to appeal to the public for information. We would especially like to hear from anyone who may have come across the green safe.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and ask for Det Sgt Crowe, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555-111.
