Cleveland Police issue warning over cash-point scam
2:29pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
PEOPLE are being warned to be vigilant when using cash point machines after a number of reports of “cash trap” devices being fitted to the machines.
Since the beginning of August there have been 17 incidents reported to police about devices fitted to machines in the Middlesbrough, Stockton, and Redcar & Cleveland policing areas.
Victims attempting to withdraw cash have had their bank cards returned to them in the usual manner but have not been given any cash, however, the money is actually taken out of their bank account and later collected by whoever fitted the device.
Anyone seen acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the bank is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101.
