Groom nets catch of the day
FOR keen angler Craig Sargeant, his new wife was not the only catch of the day he netted on his wedding day.
Despite tying the knot with fiancee Denise Richardson, 49, later that day, Mr Sargeant still managed to find time for a spot of fishing before his marriage last Saturday, reeling in 13lb 10oz mirror carp.
The couple were staying at Brompton Lakes holiday lodges, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, which features several course fishing lakes.
After dropping off Miss Richardson at the hairdressers in Richmond, Mr Sargeant nipped back to the lodge to make the most of the few minutes available before he had to set off to the registry office with the rest of the wedding party.
“No sooner had I cast my line when I felt a huge pull that turned out to be a beautiful specimen of a carp,” said the groom, 45.
“It was a fantastic start to the wedding celebrations but I have to say it was only the second best catch of the day.”
Luckily Mr Sargeant still managed to get himself ready and to the ceremony on time, although his bride may have been more sympathetic than most if he had been a few minutes late as she also enjoys fishing.
