1:07pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
THE search is on for a community champion to be heralded as a town’s top resident.
Nominations close in two weeks for Middlesbrough’s Citizen of the Year 2013.
The longstanding award is a celebration of good citizenship and public service, and aims to recognise civic heroes who make a difference to the lives of those around them.
Foster mother, Jane Bailey, was recently named 2012 Citizen of the Year, receiving her award from Middlesbrough Mayor, Ray Mallon, at a special ceremony in the Town Hall.
He said: “The people of this town are its single most valuable resource, and among them are those who have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty.
“The Citizen of the Year Award is our way of paying tribute to that work and saying thank you for the very real difference they make.”
Entries, which must be submitted by Friday, September 27, will be considered by a panel of judges representing the public and private sectors in the town.
Nomination forms can be downloaded or completed online via the Middlesbrough Council website at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/citizenoftheyear or call 01642-729701.
