Dedicated youngsters help spruce up Darlington sports and social club

A DEDICATED group of young volunteers have helped spruce up a Darlington sports and social club.
While many of their friends were at home relaxing during the summer holidays, the team of 15 to 17-year-olds from across Darlington were helping to spruce up the ground at the town's Railway Athletic sports and social club.
The group of around ten teenagers were taking part in the Government’s National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, which is aimed at encouraging youngsters to embrace new challenges, learn new skills and make a difference to their community.
Chairman of the club, Brian Hammond, said: “They have been absolutely fantastic. They painted around the football pitches and inside and outside of the dugouts.
“They asked if they could help us and came along with their own plans on what they would do.
“They turned up with their own stuff, and just got on with it, all we had to supply was the paint.
“They are really good kids. It is lovely to see them and we have good laugh with them. They have done a fantastic job.”
The group have also donated £100 to the club to sponsor a game.
