Jail for Stockton man who threw concrete paving slab at man during a night out
A DRUNKEN father-of-one who threw a concrete paving slab at a man during a night out has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Daniel Madden suffered a number of facial injuries, including lacerations behind his ear, after being hit by the paving slab, thrown by Michael March during a night out in Stockton on February 3 this year, Teesside Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Sue Jacobs said 30-year-old March, of Dixon Street, Stockton, was heard to shout ‘see how you like a brick’ before throwing the slab at his victim.
She told the court how March and his friend were seen on CCTV being approached by the victim and two other men in an alleyway behind a nightclub in Stockton.
“There is some sort of coming together then they disappeared off camera,” she said.
March then returned on a bike, picked up the paving slab, described by Ms Jacobs as being ‘bigger than a brick’, and threw it at his victim, causing him to immediately fall to the floor.
His lawyer Andrew Turton said March had little recollection of the incident and ‘felt sick’ when watching it back on CCTV.
He argued March had been provoked by the group of three men, one of which mooned at him, and that he felt genuine remorse for the attack.
March admitted wounding with intent. Sentencing him to two-and-a-half years in prison, Judge Gillian Matthews QC told March: “This is an extremely serious matter. You have no recollection of what you did on that night because you were so drunk.
“It is extremely fortunate that the injuries were not more serious.”
