Warning after vandals target Denes play area
2:30pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
REPEATED acts of vandalism at a popular Darlington play area could result in its closure, officials have warned.
More than £4,300 worth of damage has been caused to the play area in the Denes in recent weeks.
In the most recent incident, vandals have pulled up chunks of safety surface, which will cost about £2,500 to replace.
This is on top of the £1,000 fire damage that was caused at the start of the summer holidays, as well as £800 to repair part of surface damaged in another incident.
A Darlington Borough Council spokeswoman said: “If these mindless vandals aren't stopped we will have no alternative than to take the equipment away.
“We simply cannot afford to keep repairing and replacing damaged equipment. If anyone witnesses vandalism they should ring the police ASAP, these petty criminals must be stopped.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
