Young readers rewarded after summer reading challenge in Darlington
TWO little girls have been rewarded for their love of reading.
Following a summer-long reading challenge, four-year-old Grace Blewitt and six-year-old Emily Smith were given literary themed prizes last week.
More than 400 children participated in the reading challenge, which was held at libraries throughout Darlington during the summer holidays.
To complete it, children had to visit the library on three separate occasions and borrow books, gathering rewards along the way.
To mark the end of the challenge, two children were picked at random to receive prizes.
Emily, a pupil at Mowden School, won her height in books and Grace, from Reid Street school, won a family ticket to see Aliens Love Underpants at the Civic Theatre, a copy of the book and a soft toy.
The prizes were presented on Wednesday, September 4 by junior library mascot Deefor Dragon and Suzy Youldon, Bookstart and Library Literacy Coordinator.
