Harrogate Autumn Flower Show opens next week
6:53pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
A TELEVISION gardener and a world record cabbage cooking contest will feature at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show next week.
The event, at the Great Yorkshire Showground, opens on Friday, September 13 and this year will include eight full-sized autumn show gardens created by top garden designers from across the country, as well as other garden and border designs to inspire gardeners.
TV gardener Katie Rushworth, presenter of Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Garden, will be at the show, taking part in a question and answer session in the Dig It Garden Theatre on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15 and will be giving a demonstration of her favourite autumn plants at 12.30pm on Saturday.
Show Director Martin Fish said: “Show gardens are one of our most popular features and we are proud to become the first UK gardening event to offer large autumn show gardens, as well as those traditionally featured in the spring.
“The gardening year really begins in the autumn with plans for new planting, so it is particularly good to have such a diverse range of show garden ideas and plants at the show, to give our visitors a great start for the new 2014 gardening season.”
Other attractions will include a ChilliFest, a giant vegetable show, world record cabbage cooking challenge on Friday, September 13, the world record heavy onion competition and Britain’s biggest exhibition by specialist gardening societies.
There will also be expert growing advice from the Kitchen Live, Dig It Garden Theatre and Garden Advisory Bureau teams.
