York detectives investigate after man found seriously injured

DETECTIVES are investigating after a man was discovered in a street with serious head injuries.
Forensics teams today (Thursday, September 5) cordoned off the scene of the incident on Melrosegate, York, after a man was found badly injured outside Talbot House.
It is believed the man had been attacked. Passers-by found him on the street just before 1am this morning (Thursday, September 5) and called the emergency services.
The victim, who is aged 51 and from the city, was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary. He remains in the hospital, where he is said to be in a serious condition.
Police are now appealing for witnesses and in particular want to trace a group of three women who they believe may have witnessed the assault.
Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID, said: “I need to talk to anyone who was in the area of Melrosegate or near its junction with Hull Road, and anyone who was on Lawrence Street, between midnight and 1.15am on Thursday morning and urge them to contact the police immediately.
“In particular I am keen to trace a group of three women who I believe may have witnessed the assault and ask that they get in touch straight away.”
