Yorkists urged to sign Richard III petition
6:30pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
A GROUP whose work aided the discovery of Richard III’s body are urging the public to help press for his remains to be laid to rest in York.
David Johnson, of the Looking For Richard Project, said a High Court judge had ruled that public opinion should be taken into account when a decision is made about where the 15th Century king’s remains are buried.
He said as there was good evidence that Richard III wanted to be buried in York, the project’s petition, epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/38772. on the Government website had received about 28,500 signatures.
A rival petition, which is calling for the last Plantagent king’s remains to be buried in Leicester, where they were unearthed earlier this year, has about 12,450 signatures.
