AN alternative village fete will be on offer at the first ever Festival of Thrift next month.
The event promotes a “make-do-and-mend” lifestyle, and will be held at Lingfield Point, in Darlington, on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22.
A number of activities will be on offer at the village fete, including a hair salon, named Total Eclipse of the Head, where visitors can get a new ‘do’ inspired by their favourite song, while The Charity Shop DJs will provide a soundtrack for the event from records saved from skips, tips and charity shops.
Miss Constance Irkles will also be on hand to teach crowds how to hula hoop, while Francis Thorburn will show off his eco-mobile vehicle, specially created for the festival from recycled materials.
Festival of Thrift director, Stella Hall, said: “This Alternative Village Fete, which we have co-curated with Home Live Art presents a wide range of talented artists, who have responded to the theme of thrift in many different ways.
“It’s going to be fun, hands-on, beautiful and thought-provoking – all in one place. A real joy for visitors.”
The festival is being curated by designers Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway.
