Redcar man spent £200 he was given to buy building materials on himself, court told
A MAN who spent £200 he was given to buy building materials on himself has been given a community sentence.
Samuel Drury was spared jail by Judge George Moorhouse, despite having breached a suspended jail sentence previously imposed for offences of carrying a bladed article and battery.
His barrister Jonny Walker told Teesside Crown Court that the 23-year-old was now under the beneficial influence of his older brother and had turned his life around.
Drury, of Mersey Road, Redcar, was now on benefits, but hoped to find work and had begun compiling a CV with the help of his brother, Mr Walker said.
The defendant, who admitted theft, was given a 12 month community order with supervision and ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work.
