YOUNGSTERS are to experience a virtual bus tour of battlefields throughout history in an event that will also raise funds for military charities and a theatre.
Richmond Rotary Club is teaming up with Richmond School for the tour, which will take place at the Georgian Theatre Royal in the town on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.
Bev Joicey of Richmond Rotary conceived the idea, and along with Richmond School Headteacher Ian Henderson has brought together the Catterick Garrison WAG choir, Station Choir, and personnel from the garrison to provide a multi-media evening showcasing some of the history of the Armed Forces.
Ms Joicey said: “It will be a virtual bus tour of battlefields around the world from Corunna in 1809 up to the Falklands, and will be led by a professional tour operator.
“As the students visit each area of conflict, they will hear the words of fighters engaged in aspects of the battles, listen to poems and music that describes their experiences.
“Film, photographs and visual effects will be used to recreate the war zones while communal singing will help to draw the audience into the experience.”
All proceeds will go to Soldier, Sailor and Airforce Families Association, military mental health charity Combat Stress and to the theatre.
