LANDOWNERS are advised to check the security of gates that could easily be stolen following a recent theft.
Leyburn police are appealing for information following the theft of metal gates from a field near Thornton Rust, between Thursday, August 15 and Friday, August 16.
Valued at £80, they are around 8ft wide and painted green.
PC Richard Grey said: “If you were in the Thornton Rust area during the time of the theft and you saw anyone or vehicles acting suspiciously, I urge you to contact the police straight away.
“I am also keen to speak to scrap metal dealers or anyone who may have been offered them and ask that they get in touch.”
PC Grey added: “I am advising landowners to take some steps to stop thieves being able to easily steal gates, such as welding a bar across the tops of hinges to prevent the gate being lifted off, or using a second chain to secure the gate to its hinge post.”
