Families offered extended service times at Teesside Crematorium in Middlesbrough
6:08pm Monday 26th August 2013 in News
EXTENDED service times are being made available at Teesside Crematorium following consultation with funeral directors and the clergy.
The length of time available for all services in St Hilda’s Chapel at the Acklam Road site in Middlesbrough will increase from 30 minutes to 40 minutes from Monday, September 2.
The recommendation was made to a meeting of the Bereavement Services Forum where it was also agreed to review the impact of the change over the rest of the year.
Councillor Nicky Walker, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for the environment who also chairs the Bereavement Services Forum said: “The clergy and funeral directors felt that some local residents prefer to book longer services, so now the council is offering 30, 40 and 60 minute service times to suit individual requirements.”
There is no additional charge for the extended time-slots at St Hilda’s. St Bede’s Chapel at the crematorium will continue to offer extended 60 minute services by arrangement.
Timetabling between the two chapels will continue to be staggered in order to reduce the chances of two corteges arriving on the site together and to allow a smooth flow of vehicles in and out of the car parks.
