New entertainment spaces and home for markets will be included in next phase
A £38m project to transform a North-East town centre is moving on to its next stage.
Contractors are beginning work at the northern end of Stockton High Street as part of the massive regeneration project, which has already seen new paving, road improvements, bus shelters and street lighting.
The programme is also bringing to life the medieval and Georgian architecture still in existence along the High Street, with plans to revamp the Globe Theatre, as well as opening up the area to the riverside and watersports facilities on the banks of the river Tees.
Now new outdoor entertainment spaces and sculpture will be added as well as a permanent home for specialist and indoor markets. Work begins from the beginning of September at the northern end of the High Street.
