ROOKIE motorist Ron Brook has passed his driving test at the first attempt - at the age of 67.
The retired factory worker from York, who now works part time as a cleaner, only took up driving earlier this year to stave off boredom.
“I’ve got three brothers and nearly all my family drive, I’ve been relying on them chauffeuring me around in the past, so if they are willing to get in a car with me, it’s my turn,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting my first car now. I’m quite excited, I’ve got all sorts going through my head.”
Instructor Andy Parker said: “He only started with me in April and had only about 50 hours of training, which is pretty good.
“The rule of thumb is two hours for every year of your age, so for someone of 67 to do it in 50 hours is a real achievement. He’s achieved a fantastic feat in a relatively short space of time.”
