Girl critically injured in car accident at Neasham, near Darlington
A 12-YEAR-OLD girl suffered life threatening injuries in a car crash on the outskirts of Darlington this afternoon.
The girl was given anesthetic at the scene before being airlifted to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance.
She suffered serious head injuries and was flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, within nine minutes.
The girl was reported to be in a critical condition on arrival.
A further four people who were in the car were taken to hospital by road ambulance following the collision with a telegraph pole off Neasham Hill road, Neasham, at 1.30pm.
Two fire crews from Darlington attended and removed the doors of the car containing the girl to allow paramedics to reach her.
No-one else is believed to have been seriously hurt.
