Thousands of pounds found in bin bag on York doorstep

THOUSANDS of pounds stashed in a bin bag have been discovered on a York doorstep – just hours before refuse collections would have taken place.
The cash was handed in to York Police, who will not disclose the exact amount of money, and an appeal has been issued for any information.
The bag was left on the doorstep of a former vicarage in York and was handed into police on the morning of Tuesday, August 20, shortly after the householder made the discovery.
The house in now a private household and the residents are not clergy.
Police are investigating where the cash has come from and are urging anyone who has any information to contact them.
Detective Inspector Andrea Kell of York CID, said: “This is a very unusual find which remains unexplained and we would like to find out where the money came from and rule out any criminal connection.”
The bag of bank notes was discovered at 10am on Tuesday morning - which is also bin collection day for the area - and officers believe it will have been left at some point during the early morning.
Anyone who has any information which could help the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID.
