Sedgefield pupil among top achievers
SEDGEFIELD Community College pupil Kelly Dobson had more reasons than most to smile when she opened her exam results today.
The 16-year-old, who lives in Sedgefield village, County Durham, gained straight A* grades- ten GCSEs and A* distinctions in PE and ICT.
She said: “It was amazing, I wasn’t expecting it really.”
Kelly plans to study at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington, and hopes to go to university but with such high achievements in a broad range of subjects is keeping her career options open.
Headteacher David Davies was delighted with the school’s high achievers and overall performance particularly in English and maths, which managed to attain the same levels as last year’s record grades, and in science for which more pupils got top grades despite facing tougher exam questions.
He said: “It is a very positive picture.
“We’ve a big cohort of very able students, a significant number of A* and A grades across all subjects and we’re very proud.”
Former pupil, Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson, joined students as they opened their results.
He said: “I’m over the moon that the school has been able to maintain high standards in GCSE results, it is a tribute and celebration of the hard work over the year by the staff and pupils.
“I can only see if going from strength to strength and am delighted for the staff and pupils, particularly those high achievers.”
