Coach trip from Middlesbrough to fracking protest in Balcombe, West Sussex

KITCHEN FIRE: Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire at a Teesside University halls of residence for students. They were called to a flat at Parkside East in Middlesbrough today (FRI) at about 12.30pm. A cooker was damaged and the kitchen suffered 50 per cent smoke damage.

SUMMER FAIR: A summer fair is being held at The Gables Care Home, 31 Highfield Road, Middlesbrough, on Saturday, August 24, from 1pm to 4pm, when there will be a plants and cakes for sale as well as face painting and balloon modelling.

ALLOTMENT SHOW: Hartlepool’s annual allotment show is being held on Sunday at Summerhill Visitor Centre and entries will be accepted on the day. It costs just 50p per exhibit to enter, apart from the children’s classes which are free. The show will feature fruit and vegetable, flowers and home produce sections as well as a number of novelty classes, including ‘superheroes’ scarecrow design, garden on a plate, biggest sunflower head, best decorated egg, best shed and best photo on the theme “down at the allotments”. It will be open to exhibitors from 9am, judging will commence at 10.30am and the show will be open to the public from 12-4pm.
