Football festival to honour Sir Bobby

A FOOTBALL festival will be held in South Park, Darlington, on Saturday (August 10), to mark the 150th anniversary of the FA. The day has been designated Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day, with events taking place across the country. Spraire Lads and Lasses is running the South Park event, which runs from 10am to noon. It will comprise a 30-minute fun warm-up, followed by football games and penalty shoot-outs and concluding with a trophy presentation. All ages are welcome. COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning in aid of Carers UK will be held at Northgate United Reformed Church, on Saturday (August 10), from 10am to noon. Admission is free, all are welcome.
OPEN DAY: Hummersknott Gardeners Association is holding its annual open day on Saturday (August 10), from noon to 4pm. Marquees will be sited in the main allotment car park at the top of Pondfield Close. There will be a range of competitions, including best sunflower and a movie-themed scarecrow contest. There will be a tombola, charity stalls and refreshments. Members’ produce will also be available to buy.
SCOUTS’ TRIP: Members of Darlington Scouts will enjoy a trip to Kandersteg, in Switzerland, from August 24 to 31.
TEA DANCE: Darlington Samaritans is holding a tea dance on Saturday, September 21, from 2pm to 4pm, at Darlington College, in Haughton Road. It will feature music by the Big Band Theory and afternoon teas. Tickets cost £10.
YMCA PARTY: Young people who have worked with the YMCA Options team on a variety of projects over the past three years will enjoy a party at Voodoo Cafe, in Skinnergate, on Thursday evening. The invite-only event will be Mexican-themed and celebrate the young people’s achievements over the course of the programme.
SUMMER FAIR: A summer fair will be held at Wilton House Care Home, in Wilton Close, Darlington, on Saturday, August 17, from 2pm to 4pm. Attractions will include afternoon teas, refreshments and a book stall. Admission is free. All are welcome. The event is being held to raise funds for the care home.
