A PYJAMA walk in support of a hospice charity has raised more than £5,000.

The Moonlight Pyjama Walk for Herriot Hospice Homecare took place in June from Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre, Thirsk.

This year marks the hospice’s 21st anniversary of caring for patients with life-limiting illness in their own homes throughout Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Last year more than 40 supporters took part in the event and raised £2,072 towards Herriot Hospice Homecare’s running costs.

This year, 25 supporters have raised £5,000 so far with sponsorship money still to be collected. The six-mile walk around the Thirsk area started and finished at Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre.

The Moonlight Pyjama Walk was supported by personnel from local military bases who offered to help run the event.

Flight Sergeant Alan Bowman and Corporal Stu Finnigan, both from 90 Signal’s Unit, RAF Leeming, led the walk while Lance Bombardier Badjie, from 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, Alanbrooke Barracks , operated several checkpoints with the help of additional personnel from his regiment.

Leanne Hodgson, the event organiser for the charity, said: “This year’s Moonlight Pyjama Walk has been a triumph.

“The walk was supported by local organisations and businesses meaning that expenditure was kept to an absolute minimum and for that we would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this event a success.’’
