A REGIONAL television presenter who was reportedly earning more than £200,000 will not return to her role with the BBC.

Christa Ackroyd, who worked for Look North in Yorkshire for 12 years, has not been on screen for over three months.

Today's (Wednesday, July 3) BBC announcement said she would no longer be employed in her presenting role and they wished her the best for the future.

A BBC spokesman said: ''We can today confirm that Christa Ackroyd will not be returning to the BBC and her presenting role with regional news programme Look North (Yorkshire).

''We wish Christa the best for the future and thank her for the contribution she has made to the programme over the last 12 years.''

She made headlines earlier in the year when questions were asked about her absence from the show as well as her salary.

Shipley MP Philip Davies, a member of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport select committee, was reported as saying the public had a right to know why the presenter was not doing the job she was paid to do.

In an internal email, believed to have been sent to staff, head of BBC Yorkshire, Helen Thomas, said: ''I know it has been an unsettling time for you all and appreciate you bearing with me while we have tried to work things through.''

She says anyone with questions is welcome to see her, but she hopes they will understand that ''there will be some limitations on what I am able to tell you''.

The email goes onto say that as the announcement has only just been made, it would not be appropriate to talk about any replacement presenter.
