A SPECIALIST rare breed meat company from Thirsk has received a top award at the BPEX ‘Food service Pork Product of the Year’ competition 2013.

The competition finale, held at London’s Butchers Hall, saw 18 finalists recognised for product excellence in the catering sector.

Taste Tradition was awarded first place in the best cured product category for their guanciale – a type of Italian bacon. Charles Ashbridge, managing director, was presented with a salver and certificate to mark the occasion.

Tony Goodger, BPEX food service trade manager, said: “This year there were record numbers of entries, coupled with an excellent and diverse array of products all of which will enhance menus and thrill customers.

“The award-winning guanciale from Taste Tradition wowed the judges and thoroughly deserves the honour of being one of the best in the sector.”
