A BUSY road is to be closed to traffic after engineers investigating a landslip discovered further movement in the land.
Temporary traffic lights were put in place on the A67 at Low Carlbury, between High Coniscliffe and Piercebridge, near Darlington, in February while investigations took place into the landslip, caused by heavy rain.
A Darlington Borough Council spokeswoman said engineers monitoring the area had noticed further landslips and said the road must be closed in the interests of public safety.
The spokeswoman added: “Further monitoring and investigations will take place and this decision will be kept under review.”
Traffic diversions along the B6275, via Staindrop Road and Carmel Road North, will be put in place tonight (Tuesday, March 19) with delays expected for commuters.
