Final preparations for Best of Darlington awards

LAST-MINUTE preparations are underway for an awards ceremony which recognises dedication and achievement in Darlington.
The Best of Darlington awards will be held at Darlington College on Friday (March 22) evening.
About 280 people are expected to attend the invitation-only event, including the town’s MP, Jenny Chapman, and mayor Paul Baldwin.
Also there will be previous award winners, including last year’s citizen of the year Roddy Francis and young citizen of the year, Peter Richardson.
The winners of this year’s prizes are a closely-guarded secret, but more than a dozen awards will be presented, including: contribution to sport, vocational excellence, academic excellence, contribution to the arts and putting Darlington on the map.
