Warning to anglers as coarse fishing season ends

Anglers have been reminded that rivers are off limits for coarse fishing until June 15, after the start of the close season.

The Environment Agency has warned anyone breaking the rules may be prosecuted, as the rivers are closed off to allow fish to spawn. Fishing is still permitted on many canals and stillwaters, depending on landowner agreement.

DELAYS EXPECTED: Motorists travelling on the A1 between Leeming Bar and Scotch Corner have been warned to expect delays overnight for the next two weeks for safety improvement works. The work between junction 51 and 56 will be carried out in phases, with one lane closed at different locations north and southbound, between 8pm and 6am.
